Knoebels opens Henry Hartman Knoebel bought it in 1829 for $931. At first, the family used it for farming and lumbering. The birth of what is billed as America’s largest free admission amusement park occurred in 1926 when a Knoebels Grove opened with a merry-go-round that was on loan, a pool and a few food stands.
