Can you feed your dog too many treats?
While the best resource for calculating the amount of treat calories you can feed your dog is your veterinarian, in general, most of the veterinary articles I read suggested that treats should not make up more than 10 percent of your dog’s total diet, and that diet includes treats and snacks.
How many dog treats are too many?
The daily allotment for a 60-pound (adult) dog is 2 1/3 cups, which comes to 1,001 calories a day. That means their maximum allotment of treats should come to no more than 100 calories a day.
Can dogs get sick from treats?
Don’t give dogs unsafe treats like cooked bones, pig ears, cow hooves, or jerky treats. Dogs may think these items are special, but they can cause a lot of harm. Processed animal bones are often brittle with jagged edges and can result in a very sick dog.
Can too many dog treats cause diarrhea?
Along with food changes, an introduction of new treats, bones, or other chew toys can cause diarrhea.
