Are xrays dangerous for dogs?
X-rays can be potentially harmful and for that reason, you are not allowed to be present with your dog during the procedure. Radiology personnel wear special protective lead gowns and shields and your pet will have protective covers placed over the parts of the body that are not being radiographed.
What happens when a dog has an xray?
It is important your dog stays still during the x-ray, so in some instances, your dog will need to be sedated. Once ready, the x-ray will be triggered, where it will take images of the area in a variety of grey shades, but dense tissue will come up white.
Is it safe to Xray a puppy?
X-rays most often give us an exact count of the litter, but even with the best images, some puppies could be ‘hiding’ behind another puppy or the dam’s spine. Rarely are x-ray counts off by more than one puppy. We recommend performing a radiograph puppy count between 55 and 58 days of gestation.
